hi gerrymander - we're in the same boat, except I'm a little further down shore. I've been working 3 years in I-banking/consulting for the $$ hoping that I could apply the experience to gratifying humantiarian work down the road. Sick of the corporate world, in the past 6 months I've done extensive soul searching, from exploring different spiritualities, to taking personality and career tests - and everything points towards med school, it's also a gut feeling. I was pre-med when I entered college but quit, terrified of the committment. But my 'real' world experience has narrowed my life goals - and I have now re-committed myself to med - [also having to apply to a post-bac pre-med program]. so my advice is - if it's in your gut to go med - do it and skip the I-banking - but if you're not 'sure' - a couple years in the real world served me 10x more than 4 years sheltered in college in understanding what career is for me. [just be prepared for a personality lobotomy in -banking]. i'll be meeting with my college dean on thursday to get a clearer picture of the requirements to get into a good post-bac school -and will fill you in.
good luck! (and thanks for starting this topic!) |
