I was accepted to the program at Scripps College in Claremont, California. This is also a very good program; their long-term med school acceptance rate is 90%, and some years has been 100%. I don't think anything about me really stood out. My undergrad GPA was strong--3.85 from a large, fairly well-known university. After 5+ years working, I've developed pretty good interview and communication skills; may that's what impressed them. I don't know. I haven't been volunteering in a third-world country or anything like that.
I just completed my applications to Bryn Mawr and Goucher last week, so I am still waiting to hear.
I worked for one of the big-five, where I worked for several healthcare clients and that's how I started developing an interest in medicine. Of course, from there I did a lot of research and soul searching before deciding to pursue it. It's a highly personal issue. You can't rationalize it or explain it to someone else. I think you have to be idealistic, and just feel in your heart that medicine is what you want to do. |

..looks like a solid program. Did you defer admission? I just got the Goucher brochure the other day. The students that go there have some very impressive backgrounds. Do you know if those students are typical of their admitted postbac class?
Were you strong in your science courses as an undergrad? My science GPA is a 3.0 even though my overall is a 3.8. I'm wondering if my science grades would hurt my postbac chances.
Do you know any postbac premeds? I'm thinking of calling some of the postbac programs and asking to speak with a current student. Have you tried that?
I know Vault isn't your number one priority, but I'd like to know how your experience with Bryn Mawr and Goucher turn out. Best of luck!
