In Reply To: How much do MDs actually love science? This is actually a question for my roommate since he does well in science courses, but doesn't LOVE them. The security and the value of helping people is what attracts him to medicine.
Message: I was similar when I entered me school. Now, as I'm leaving, I (finally) realized that I always found the policy/tech/management of medicine more intersting than learning the science a clinician is expected to know. Its a big reason I'm not going to residency...I'm just not intellectually stimulated by the stuff anymore, and I find it somewhat painful to sit there and memorize it. Its a trade-off as always...he needs to determine if it's worth it for him...and how it compares to his other options.
