Message: His comments in quotations (1)"You made no prior attempt to persue a career that even smacks of medicine, you werer happily doing your thing until the economy went all to hell, and now, as a last resort you're thinking about medicine." And you were doing well in consulting until the economy went all to hell. Except you had pediatrics to fall back on. Regarding demonstrating a sincere desire for medicine, tell us how going into management consulting after medical school shows a commitment to medicine. LOL (2)"Given your work and experience, an MBA seems to be a much easier fit..." Suuuure, that's why you got an MD and MPH instead of an MBA when you went into management consulting after medical school. An MBA is so good that you passed it up. Good advice. (3)"Docs aren't being reimbursed, and job security aint what it used to be" Right, and that's why you quit consulting and went back into clinical medicine because job security is bad and reimbursements are low. That makes sense. (4)"This ain't a life preserver type o gig, its a lifestyle kind of deal" Uh huh, tell that to your consulting colleagues that got layed off. I'm sure they would love to have a pediatric residency to fall back on instead of the classified section of the NY times. It amazes me how incredibly stupid some people are. They don't even know when they are putting their foot in their mouth. I can't believe you had the guile to actually give this guy advice.
