For those of you thinking about going back and getting your MBA, you should read "MD/MBA: Physicians on the New Frontier of Medical Management" by Arthur Lazarus. It is an excellent book and has a huge collection of personal narratives by people who have gone back to get an MBA.
I'm an MD turned law student and as soon as I graduate with my JD I'm going back to clinical medicine. I thought being a lawyer would be interesting but that's only so if you like doing paperwork, understanding detailed regulations, etc.
I realize that nobody else has mentioned getting a JD but the point is that if you go back for your MBA be prepared to spend your career behind a desk doing paperwork. Dealing with patients and other non-physician medical personnel can be extremely frustrating but the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side.
Also, "karenrobbins" is way out of line spewing blanket insults at doctors on this board but she has a good point which is that your chance of making it big in Ibanking is virtually nil. Be realistic about what your opportunities are like before you spend 100K and two years getting an MBA. Having an MD might an advantage in a few nitche areas in business, but nobody is going to roll out the red carpet for you just because you went to medical school.
