I thought I was the only one who felt this way about clinical Medicine. I just finished a Prelim. year of internal medicine and I could not see myself becomeing a mule like the other primary care docs. and or spend another 2-3 years in a fellowship. Anyway - Im looking for a way to change health care. My biggest contention is that prevention is the key especially in underserved areas - where these people dont have a clue.
Let me know what you think - even though we are going two seperate ways - good luck to you. |

i understand your concern. it does bother me that now that i have left medicine, many of my patients have called me at home to beg me to see them. this breaks my heart but i can't subject myself to the misery i was feeling while practicing medicine.
if you are interested in prevention, try a preventative medicine residency. it is a new field and i have given it some thought if nothing works out for me in business. it is apparently a really benign residency but extremely interesting if you like this subject matter. the down side is that there are not too many jobs in it once you are done.
i imagine this will change given the new direction healthcare is moving towards, prevention versus cure.
good luck!
