Dear MT,
What have MDs that have gone into consulting said about their experience. Do they have any regrets about leaving medicine, do they like the business side. I am an ophthalmology resident now who is thinking of quitting b/c I CAN NOT STAND clincal medicine for much the same reasons as you. Many friends have advised me to give radiology a try (no patient contact) but I am not THAT interested in radiology but the perks of the field tempt me. Any radiologists out there that have left medicine?? Why have you?? I am leaning towards a complete career switch b/c I really do not enjoy the practice of clinical medicine but I do have that business sense and enjoy it. I feel that although radiology has its perks it is still clinical medicine at the end of the day and I'm sure it has its own annoyances. I think I need to do something that I have a passion or at least interest in and clinical medicine isn't doing it for me.
Any thoughts anyone... |

I thought I was the only one who felt this way about clinical Medicine. I just finished a Prelim. year of internal medicine and I could not see myself becomeing a mule like the other primary care docs. and or spend another 2-3 years in a fellowship. Anyway - Im looking for a way to change health care. My biggest contention is that prevention is the key especially in underserved areas - where these people dont have a clue.
Let me know what you think - even though we are going two seperate ways - good luck to you.
