if they were obscene and now there excellent. you agree they are trending down. In 5 years they will be average and in 10 years they will be shit. look at some other countries where this has happened i.e nhs .the simple fact is that medical care costs a lot and its going up expotentially. insurance doesnt want to pay MDs the cash and goverments sure dont want to.
as i said im not opposed to mds getting paid well (remember i am a md),i think for the amount of study we do and the amount of hard work we put in we should be the highest paid. but it just doesnt happen anymore.

Any professional earning risk free dollars does not deserve to be the highest paid!
Certain lawyers and investment bankers earn buckets of money because they threw themselves at the mercy of a competitive market place. Doctors manage to plod along earning excellent salaries without any need to market themselves or compete agressively. I come from the traditional school which beleives that the higher the risk, the higher the return! Doctors face no risk and still earn an excellent return- this defies economics!
