Message: Advice to new Retail Merchandisers ?? check out competitor??s base pay before making any decisions. Good companies support their employees by offering competitive base pay in the same field of work. Now we all know how much HALLMARK Cards sell for so where does the money go? Although as retail merchandiser are the front line of the business, the dollar stops way before ever reaching your hand. As a once great P/T position with very flexible hours became more corporate push for productivity over consumer quality it was time to leave. So after 6 years of dedicated employment with Hallmark little did I know how ridiculously low their base pay was for this field of work @ $8.25 per hour. And in all 6 years of employment no matter how hard or good, every RM across the board received $0.25 per hour raise on his or her anniversary date. YES!! That was not a typo but 25 CENTS per hour per year!! what a go get??em Attitude that is! Seems by implementing ??new?? handheld unites in 2004, at a costly price, Hallmark's philosophy changed from ??personal touch?? to one of recoup by lessening the # of RM??s in the field and doubling up accounts to remaining RM??s. One small thought ?? these units still do not open individually wrapped cards, arrange in specific card order, slot cards into pockets, ensure card or envelope counts, fill empty pockets, place orders on their own, straighten or throw out trash ?? alias ??departments that are unshoppable?? ?? aka ??loss of repeat customer, and loss in dollars to them!
