I'd just recommend against uncertainty given it's your career and you want some strong names and good deals on your profile.
Not sure about the future especially now. I am making plans so that I don't have to worry and the process is underway, given the job market is good.
Re: Studz chaning role, realistically he was brought for the relationships rather than management, though one must ask where things will go in i-banking advisory given a non M&A banker will be heading it. US presence, there is one in certain sectors and an execution team. A met up with a friend on one of the sector teams in NY and was complaining about the constant pitching and no dealflow for his sector. He's thinking of heading off as well.
Hard to say re: bonus, base rose already to meet market levels, so it should be within the average range. though probably not at the mid point or top of that range.
Sponsors team started in Asia close to halfway through last year with an Assoc Director heading out there not sure the full size. There's a team here too. Execution team is a bigger team and you'd get experience across different sectors, not somewhere I'd go to though. Don't like the "team" culture. |

Thanks for your great input so far. I'm just interested in how far HSBC can really go.
In terms of the US, so basically from what you're saying it's a no-go for HSBC. Are there really no teams there which do reasonably well?
In terms of bonus being on market average - isn't the market rate at 100% base for a 2-rated analyst? It sounds like at HSBC you get 1/4 of that?
I've heard about the rotation programme which HSBC has. Where do most graduates go? Would rotating to somewhere atypical be a good experience, like Japan or China. How does the HK teams compare? Which would be a credible team to join?
Bottomline - which team do you recommend at HSBC?
PS: Out of curiosity, which team do you work in?
Thanks so much for your advice.
