It takes four good people to understand. It is far better to leave when one is unhappy than to stay. For the rest of you, especially that sniveling dufus who is at "breaking point", crying and writing to the president, consider this. If you thought your husband (or wife) was abusive how long would you stay in the marital home? Did you know that the average worker spends MORE of their time in the workplace than at home? At least in a conscious state. That brings me to another point. I am sure that there are many industrious and capable people writing on this Board. However, in my many years at The Guardian, I am convinced that a large number of you are not fully compus mentus. In other words you are either stupid or suffer some sort of mental disease. Well, a battered wife who keeps going back for more sufferes from "battered wife syndrome". Perhaps what you suffer is similar in a workplace related way. A few have, battered employee syndrome - thats always the case, no matter where one works. Bad apple bosses are, unfortunately, not confined to one employer. I think, on the other hand, that there are just so many of you and what you need is a does of reality. Do a little work and straighten up. Shape up or ship out. You people work for a company that still has a traditional defined benefit plan (and a very well funded one too, because management is extremely attentive), great health benefits, a 401k with a match etc. The company is generous in making allowances for employees who suffer major injuries and those returning to work with disabilities. It gives benefits to National Guard and Reservists serving active duty, that it is not required to. So take it from me, if you stay stop griping and start pulling your weight. If you really want change, don't hang around. Do what the four writers ahead of me on this string did. Be proactive, post your resume on Monster and call those recruiters. At present there is a shortage of good workers. But, maybe you really do know - you're NOT good workers.
