I have a BA Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison State College in NJ...2.7 GPA but that is only based on five courses...the rest is "CR" - Credit Received.
I've been accepted to the Villanova MAcc program...my other option is getting a second degree - Bachelor of Science Business Administration, concentration Accounting from Thomas Edison - would save me 10k or so - and could easily get my GPA up to the mid 3's.
I'm hoping to intern in Fall or Spring 2006. By the end of this summer I can be either four classes into the MAcc, or five or six months away from BSBA graduation. GT is my first choice as I've read a lot of good things about them on this board and elsewhere. Not sure what to do as far as when to establish contact - right now I'm more or less still just a liberal arts grad.
Thoughts, advice, contacts, anything is much appreciated. Thanks! |

I had a similar situation -- a Bachelor of Journalism, with a 2.8 from the early 90s. Went back and got my BBA in Accounting with a very high GPA, rather than a MAcc, because it was less expensive and the Masters would have required stem classes before I could get started on the stuff that counted towards the degree. Mostly, and especially for public accounting, I think the Masters degrees are only really useful for qualifying to sit for the CPA exam... undergrads who didn't double-major or take enough classes to hit the 150 mark.
As an aside, GT's Edison office was voted the top one or two offices within the firm to work by GTers, so it would make a good choice to apply.
