I'm disappointed GT is retaining someone of your patience and heart.
I was simply curious as to why the package increased so much. When I compared GT's 2006 benefits to my other offers (oh yes someone as obviously clueless as myself did get multiple ones) GT's were pricier.
All I asked for was a summary of a dialogue that probably occurred between management and employees involving the increase.
As to my attitude, I didn't sign with GT for a health care plan, I signed because I enjoyed the people I met and the work I would be doing. Health care is a 'benefit.'
What is the wellness plan?
Thank you and happy holidays everyone! |

I've worked in private industry at a company comparable in size to GT, and I was paying $80/mo for medical insurance. When I left to go back to school, I was paying $100/mo for private health insurance. So I think it is a perfectly valid observation that GT's current health plan seems a bit costly compared to other places. As a GT employee now, I am not the least bit offended by your comments. I can not imagine why an accountant in the company who is not at all involved with the formation of the benefits package would be.
But more importantly, I felt compelled to respond to your message and reassure you that in my opinion, the "GT culture" encourages people to ask questions as needed, particularly as it relates to your satisfaction with all aspects of your job. I'm very disappointed that you have received responses telling you your opinions are offensive and that you don't need an explanation for questions about your benefits package.
On your first day, I think you will have a chance to meet with HR who will provide you with more information about GT benefits, and hopefully you will have a chance to ask your questions then (though you may want to refrain from using the word "stink" ;)
Best of luck to you!
