Message: (Ivy League school, econ/math major) For various reasons I didn??t do well in the freshman year, and my GPA took a hit as a result. But I??ve been doing pretty well since then and my GPA is on a strong upward trend. However, since I screwed up really bad in the first year, although I??ve got really good grades last year and this semester, my GPA is still around 3.3ish. I have pretty strong leadership and working experiences though. So is it a good idea to briefly explain this situation on the cover letters and indicate that my GPA is getting higher? Or could I send the recruiter a separate email beforehand and explain this? Anyway, it would be very kind of you if you could inform me of the possible strategies in this situation.
