I am a current ECLP in my 4th rotation. I joined the program as an internal hire (worked at GE prior to ECLP) and found ECLP to be a great career boost:
- worked with many senior level executives that I never had a chance to meet before the program
- built a large network of coworkers, managers, mentors, fellow ECLPs, etc.
- successfully led projects that I wouldn??t have had the chance to be involved with without the program
If your mind isn??t set that you MUST work in a specific role, or for a specific manager, or at a specific location, then a program is a great way to gain experience on a variety of projects while building a large network. Choose the program that aligns most closely with your ultimate career goals, because that way you??ll be able to get the maximum benefit from the experiences you gain and network you build.
I??ve known several people to move into Business Development roles after ECLP; if BD??s what you want, then I think ECLP is a better fit. If you??re uncertain, talk to some RMLPs and ECLPs and determine your level of interest in their projects. (If you don??t know anyone, ask the program??s hiring manager to connect you with someone.) Then evaluate how interested you are in relocating and working at different businesses. If after doing this you feel that a program is a good fit for you, then I definitely think it??s worth the 2 years.

Thanks for the input. How was the interview process for the ECLP? How much input do you have in terms of your rotations? Also, what is the compensation like? I've bumped into a few ECLP members and have received mixed criticism. Some feel like they're doing all of the grunt work. While others feel like they actully have an impact on the business they're dealing with. Do the rotations and assignments boil down to your prior work and academic experience?
