In Reply To: I am waiting to hear back from Dreyfus. I interviewed for a Client Specialist position, which offers an 8 week training program and the chance to get the 6. The first 2 years are spent taking inbound calls from shareholders, answering account and product questions, processing trades and cross selling the product. It is a salaried position. After that, you can go anywhere in Dreyfus. Have you heard of opportunities like this? It sounds like it could be a good opportunity to learn the product, get solid training and eventually move up. Any thoughts?
Message: Yes, Dreyfus is a good place to get your foot in the door. Fidelity, Janus, and other mutual fund companies offer plenty of legitimate quality opportunities. The pay may not be huge, but you'll get good experience and advancement potential. Some of the more senior level sales opportunities (wholesale, institutional, etc) are some of the best out there. There are loads of candidates out there. Pick up the phone and call the hiring manager/ HR contact to let them know how interested you are in working for Dreyfus. Contact everyone in your network to see if they know someone that works in the company who could recommend you. Don't let the HR department run the process. Find others who are doing the job or who can assist you in getting the job and lobby them for it. Don't give up until you get the job.
