Insurance sales is a difficult career to get started in. Historically, only 1 out of a 100 agents has made over $100,000 per year. However, almost everyone can make over $100,000 per year, if they really want to. As AgentO says, one of the keys "is to stay with it." The other key is to find an agency and/or insurance company that is willing to provide the sales training, support and service you need to grow. It is very difficult to enjoy success in this business initially, if you try to do it alone. Find a mentor who is successful in the area that you want to specialize in, and learn from them. Think about all the high paying professions; doctors, lawyers, accountants, managers, professional atheletes and so on. All of them spent years in training and learning their profession. All of them served an internship of some kind. None of them started off making a $100,000 per year. It took years of hard work and sacrifice. Sales is no different from any of these other professions.
By the way, this is one of the professions, that if you pay your dues and learn to sell the right way, you can make over a $1,000,000 per year.
