Hello esteemed colleagues:
I will really appreciate to know your thoughts on the following topic: regardless of the complex outlook that the financial industry -particularly the Investment Banking specialty- has been recently dealing with, during a 20-year career, I??ve participated as Corporate Finance Senior Analyst in an small firm whose main business is the private practice as financial consultant.
I would like to tell you that my experience has evolved positively but it has a particular feature though; at the present time, I am working hard on focusing my career once again to the financial field (basically IB or Equity/Debt Research) after staying away for a year and a half solving family matters taking advantage of this time to carry out a continuous academic self-preparation (Finance/languages); being aware of the increasing challenges and competitiveness that the IB industry faces nowadays, I am somehow hesitant about what a financial recruiter might think about my experience while working for that firm:
As a Senior analyst, I had to deal with a ??multitask?? role because of the small team that I was part of (3 persons); I was involved in credit risk analysis, planning, advising clients, developing computer-based models, due diligence, calculating agency costs, preparing informational contacts, etc. What worries me is how an interviewer could match my specific skills with his requirements (I perceive that role as the most significant asset that I possess though) therefore, what I have done, is to focus my r??sum?? by pursuing a role as Senior financial analyst in order to be coherent about the way that I have gained my knowledge and experience in the financial field.
How to handle such IB/financial analysis/clerical role? I know that the big IB players have specific duties for staffs that wouldn??t allow analysts or associates to participate simultaneously in several activities looking only for their specialization in a particular area.
What do you guys think about focusing to Financial Analysis instead of IB? I think that if I do so, I could balance my possibilities before a financial institution as well as a private company.
Your advice will be really appreciated.
