In Reply To: As a corporate recruiter, I would want to know that you first applied "as yourself" and that the HH sent you in later. However, just because you let the company know doesn't make it any more or less likely that they'll contact you. You won't be "scoring any extra points" if you weren't already qualified for the job. The delay in hearing back from the company may be due to any number of reasons, some legit, some not, and an explanation of this issue probably won't shorten the delay any. Good luck in the process!
Message: As a headhunter that has worked on both the contigent and the retained side I will tell you that it cannot hurt you for the headhunter to show you in to a company to which you've already sent your resume. If the company likes you and you are qualified, the headhunter will not proclude you from getting the job. If the headhunter is contingent there is a chance THEY may get screwed on the fee...NOT YOU. And if they are retianed, chances are it is in their contract to get paid regardless of who gets placed. Having a headhunter represent you and do your negotiating for you is certainly better than being in a stack of resumes in the HR department! Good luck.
