Nine years ago I went back to the drawing board and embarked upon a new career in mergers & acquisitions and began a self-education program that can now best be characterized as obtaining a virtual PhD.
I??ve developed a private equity network and established a global presence via the Internet which has resulted in originating and closing significant transactions.
Taking the long term perspective I will probably continue doing this M&A work, specializing in capital development for mid-sized companies indefinitely. Having gained considerable insight I??m well qualified to assist business owners with their equity funding needs for growth and generational transitional issues.
One often-cited study projected that more than $6.8 trillion would change hands through generational transitions between 1995 and the year 2015, much of which is currently concentrated in private family businesses. Estimates were that at any one time, about 10% of 42,000 private companies in the United States with sales of greater than $25 million would be actively pursuing an outright sale, a recapitalization, or the sale of shares to an employee stock ownership plan.
During the past few years I came to the realization that implementing a business investment capital development strategy would require a critical systems analysis. A significant gap existed between public and private equity markets, investors and the business community in general. The market place needed a database information system which focused on the capital development issues. Money is generally available but requires extraordinary effort to make a dramatic impact on middle market business requirements. In other words the clear indication is that a substantial amount of funding is available but there remains a disconnect between investors and business owners. Traditional methods of corporate finance simply do not fulfill the need.
The bottom line is I developed the master database system and am well prepared to conduct equity and debt capitalizations with a thorough understanding of mid-market business affairs.
