Message: The most important thing to realize here is that Insurance, like every other major industry, has its peaks and valleys. The high degree of instability created by M & A activity only exacerbates it. It's a high risk, long term investment of time, skill and effort. With those type of sweat equity requirements, there will always be those who weren't able to achieve what they ultimately wanted to achieve. Hence the negativity. Those who assume that there is a higher percentage of success in one type of high risk/reward sales than another are fools. If it wasn't difficult or requiring of tremendous sacrifice and commitment, everyone who could dial a phone would already be doing it. For years I was told that headhunters would fail to thrive in the presence of the Internet, and I can tell you that by absorbing and using the technology instead of fighting it, I thrive. With regards to you, Lew, I am afraid that your words are read with a jaundiced eye. It is hugely apparent that your motivations extend beyond help to include personal/professional gain. If this is the approach you are passing on to new recruits, I'd be wary of recreating the lack of trust that has tarnished the insurance agent profession in the first place.
