I am looking for any advice regarding careers in finance.
First a little background:
I have an undergraduate degree in electrical and computer engineering. I have a minor in business. I have 18 credit hours remaining in my MBA program. Both my undergraduate and MBA will have been obtained from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
I would like to stay in the Kansas City area. I have no work experience in engineering or finance. I understand that an entry level job is about all I will be qualified for. I realized in the middle of my undergraduate degree that engineering is not my cup of tea. I had already invested too much time into engineering to quit. My logic was that if I obtained my MBA my upward mobility in a finance job would be improved. I am not against working in banking, but it seems that with my engineering degree a corporate job in a tech related industry would be a good match.
Questions:
What are some positions in corporate finance?
Are larger firms more likely to need and want someone with my background?
Is a financial analyst position available in the corporate setting? I have seen it more in the investment banking context.
I am open to any comments, good or bad.
Thank you for your time.
