In Reply To: appreciate the time and info. I guess the one question remaining is, if I start at the cash management position, will that experience "count" when the time comes to apply for more lending-related positions? And do peole even make that kind of moves? Or, if I want to be in lending, should I wait until I get the opportunity instead of just starting "anyhwere in a bank"? What would be your advice? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Message: Accepting the cash management position might help to "get your foot in the door". Afterall, it would be "banking" experience. However, I would recommend looking to transfer to lending quickly (within 2 years). It is my opinion that it is best to start your lending career as a credit analyst (which is an entry level position). Also, the longer you stay in cash management, the more you will be "pegged" in that position versus being seen as someone who has some basic banking experience and is still teachable. Without a doubt, the credit analyst position should be your main goal. However, if it is not available, cash management is probably not a bad "fall back" plan.
