How many transfers are typical? |

I am currently considering applying for the special agent position. I have read numerous profiles of special agents and one area that concerns me is that each one seems to report that every 2-4 years they are transferred to a new city. I am wondering if this is typical and whether these transfers are voluntary. As a father two small children, I would not want to continually have to pull them out of school and move them to a new city to follow my career. I am really interesed in a special agent position, but would like to better understand the stability of your assigned location. For instance, if I am initially assigned to a city, and I want to stay there, is generally up to you to decide whether you transfer out or not?
