I was reading that the California Supreme Court ruled that older employees who were fired could not automatically claim age discrimination. In addition, the ruling also countered a 1988 decision which made it hard for employers to fire employees who had had a good performance record. This does not sound like a positive step for employer/employee relations. Why would the court do this? Do you think it was a good and/or fair decision?
