In Reply To: I work in the Wilmington area for duPont. Here, all sites have a "CTP" or Career Transition Program. I'm sure it exists in other forms all around the company globally. People are put on it whenever downsizing or layoffs take place. It's designed to help you transition into another career: with another company or into retirement. It's very common around here to hear someone say "he was CTP'd." Wilmington is full of independent consultants, all former duPont employees. If you are a new employee or recent grad, everything looks great. But once you hit mid-career, your chances of getting a CTP are very real. Everybody worries about it. My advice to new and young employees is to take everything you can from duPont to build your resume: travel to many different sites, take their courses, ask for more responsibility, volunteer for as much as possible, then start looking for another job after four to six years. If you haven't made manager status by the time you are in your mid to late thirties, and over 90% don't, your career will go nowhere, and the CTP becomes very real.
Message: Just wondering if anything has changed.
