Help!! I may have the opportunity to work in the Northern European area later this year. Although I am very excited by the prospect and love traveling through that part of the world, I am unsure as to what to expect as an American woman of color living there. Any advice would assist me in the decisionmaking process!! |

Europeans are sick of immigrants...not Americans. And, Afican-American is a nationality (think of all the black people who are not Americans thus not African American). While prejudice of any kind is way uncool, it's human and it happens, so spend a few years without the spotlight being on you. Which country?--maybe I'll have more to share. You will encounter some tension that evaporates when they realize you're American. Europe's hangups are more about nationality, not so much race.
