In Reply To: CallzEm, you're pretty much on target. Everyone is resposnible for their own career. (we saved someone hundreds of dollars of executive coaching if that message sinks in). And you're right that it's up to all of us to take what you want and use it as a career catalyst. But Ayn Rand aside, Digitas is as another psster wrote, a particularly "mean and venal" culture. It rewards the wrong behavior which is ironic for an agency (though like others, I'd maintain it's built and run more like a consulting company than an agency) that believes in optimizing customer behavior. It's real weakness is the triumph of politics over talent and in my opinion, the factor that will prevent DIgitas from becoming the agent of change that the industry needs. I don't find the negative posts to be whining at all. Instead, they seem symptomatic of frustration and anger at a system that is obsessed with admiring itself in the mirror and valuing the political, expedient move over the smart one.The company owes everyone an honest shot at success. There has to be something in it for the little guy and it's okay to demand performace from him and to set the bar high. But it should abide imposters, politicians and executive bootlicking culture at its peril. In the end, it is a highly toxic brew. CooCoocachoo to you gt.You're the poster child for blind ambition digistyle.
Message: Agree we have culture problems - without question. Considerable inconsistency still abounds between what we're saying we want to be and how we're aligning against that goal with people & process. I think we're working on it; time will tell if the efforts pay off. In the meantime, please cut GT some slack; he really is part of the solution, not the problem. I have never seen another person at that level so committed to taking us to the next level. If you don't believe me, book some time with him to discuss it- he'll convince you personally, I predict.
