Both are BB's and have good reps. While both are performing well right now, I think potentially DB could be one of the most significant IBs in the world. Lehman however was always a BB and has much deeper roots in IB. Under Ackerman's influence however DB is becoming increasingly London and IB centric. All though is can change with different management though.
I would say go on what felt better and what others say - there is no textbook answer to this question.
Also, anyone who's ever lived in London would refer to the financial sector as the 'city' and would never talk of 'canary wharf' when a firm is based in the City. This is likely to be the case for at least the next 5 years, and probably much longer.
