I define a 1st year manager as someone who is a 1st year manager at their firm. It does not relate to how many years of PM experience that person has.
Everyone's perspective is different, but I know firsthand (through friends) what they are being paid at other consulting firms as a 1st year manager. I also know what another friend was paid when he joined Deloitte last year as a 1st year manager. In each of these instances, it is $130K+.

So you're definition is different than industries definition. Your friends are coming in at the high ends which means it is the first year for them being a manager at Deloitte not as a "first year manager". Big difference. That's what confused everyone.
A true 1st year manager (i.e., a person that has been a manager a year or less in the B5 consulting world would probably get low 100s - 100 to 115 based on skills. Someone who has been a manager for a few years could get as much as 130 or even 135 for hot skills, like SAP.
But 130 - 150 is crazy, and just not true.
