I am a former 3rd yr Manager that is considering returning after 3 yrs in Industry. The pay was nice relative to the work hours, but I got frustrated with the lack of motivation and drive from the business. That and, I hate to admit this, I kinda missed traveling. (I can't belive I am saying that out loud)
But one of the major concerns I have is the what the culture is like now that the "merge" has finalized and settled out. I have heard rumors that the D&T side has tightened the purse strings so much that it is even worse than when I left 3 yrs ago. I have also heard that the D&T Partners don't understand the Consulting work, and therefore focus just on hrs billed, not on value to the firm or client.
Can someone give me an idea of how the firm's culture seems to be these days?
Thanks! |

As I recall, the only focus the partners had under the DC was hrs billed too ... the difference was that they spun lots of BS about value, being the "nice ones" in the consulting arena etc. whereas the beancounters are clearly not so slick.
My advice would be ... look to join a boutique firm. Your ex Consulting and industry experience will bring you much more responsibility, opportunity and money than if you went back to Deloitte.
