im sure its pretty much whatever the client wants/needs so it can be dependant if there is a meeting at client site on monday or friday, etc.
What about travel regionally?
Is it all over the U.S. usually?
or do they really staff you locally or regionally?

Yes, they do try to staff you regionally/locally as it reduces travel costs/time and just makes good common sense.
However, we're in the business to make money. If you are best fit for a non-local/regional project (or there aren't any available), then you'll travel.
