Message: Just accepted a summer at Cowen, graduating from NYU Summa Cum Laude, Honors, etc. My point is this: Cowen was not my only offer. And, further, Cowen empolyees had other offers as well. I'm talking about bulge bracket offers - UBS, Morgan, and Lehman, to name a few. Everyone tried to convince me to go bulge bracket, but I actually listened to MYSELF. I also made it a point to ask relatively similar questions at every firm at which I was interviewing. The end result? Cowen is a true Wall Street firm. They do not use their balance sheet for deals - they use concrete capital and SOLID client relationships to do deals - a very difficult and respectable task (despite their Societe General alliance). They are NUMBER 1 in Health Care equity deals 2004 (yes, this means that Cowen, based on DOLLAR AMOUNT DEALS, is better than Morgan, Merrill, Goldman, etc.), and they have several other very strong areas. Their M&A division, for example, completed the Vivendi-Universal deal for $14 billion in 2004. You don't see too many NON-M&A-focused banks with roughly 500 employees doing $14 billion deals! Aside from that, like someone mentioned, the Chipotle IPO isn't exactly child's play either. The firm is growing immensely. The IPO and the SG divestiture will allow Cowen to grow into other areas and develop and grow much of its present success. If I could write all that I think is great about Cowen, I would take up at least a few pages, but you get the idea. My opinion is a bit biased, but I know a deal when I see one. If you are in the market for summer analyst opportunities, analyst positions, associate positions, etc., Cowen is ABSOLUTELY worth a second look. Good luck to all out there still in the heated pursuit!
