In Reply To: Since CEB is a growth company that depends on retaining talent, they do not like to fire anyone for any reason. *However*, one of the things that they are trying to do with the SAR (short-answer research) redesign is to ratchet-up their recruiting process. The problem is that they already have 'good' people; they just haven't done anything worthwhile with them. Of the ten or so SAR researchers that I am acquainted with, a couple are leaving the firm for unrelated reasons. I can only say for sure that one of the others has been courted for the new position. Being moved into the new position is supposed to be a *potential* option open to all the SAR associates, but frankly, they have already filled the MAJORITY of the new positions through campus recruiting. The remainder of the researchers don't really know what's going to happen to their jobs, and they really need to hammer away at the leadership to find out. (And their managers and ADs, who field most of their questions on the redesign, are in jobs that are going to be redesigned, too, so they're not told everything, either. Furthermore, one of the ADs' tasks is to keep everyone calm during the redesign.) Not many people (even the managers) seem to realize this, though: They're too trusting. Otherwise, many of the researchers may wind up working in the firm's godforsaken "Talent Management" department or something--and none of us came to CEB for that. The SAR redesign reaches across the entire company. If you've been offered a job (even if it seems unrelated to SAR at first glance), you really need to get a very, very specific commitment from CEB as to what your options are going to be 3 months from now. Even if you're hired into a job affected by the SAR redesign (or some other internal process), there's no way in hell they'll tell you until you get there--unless you corner them.
Message: Once the SAR redesign is implemented, which will happen when the new campus recruits start, probably in June or July, the present "Research Associate" position will immediately cease to exist. The "Research Analyst" position will supplant it (at $50K plus as much as a 20% bonus), and those Research Associates who have not been "certified" to be Research Analysts will need new jobs. If the Associates do not become Analysts, those new jobs *might* be within CEB, but I haven't seen a guarantee. Nor do I know *where* in CEB they might be. One more point of caution:you talked about a "Strategic" research analyst position. I believe that there is a new Strategic Research practice starting (I'm not sure of the details yet): if that where you're going and they're paying you in the low 40s (even if you're to be called an "Analyst"), you're probably affected by the SAR redesign. You need to ask them very straightforward questions and insist on straightforward answers.
