In Reply To: We were told during CEB onboarding that Derek Van Bever, a CEB executive and CEB lifer, was active on employment message boards, busy responding to posts. So please take CEB FOR LIFE's comments with caution. CEB has to respond to negative posts because with such high turnover, they need every applicant they can get. Anyway, the other posters are quite correct vis-a-vis travel policies. Accepting the CEB travel software recommendations result in expense violations 90% of the time. You can't win despite following the rules. It's a form of "planned harassment", similar to the generous vacation package that you can never use or carryover. Flying circuitous itineraries on vomit-comet planes and staying in low budget hotels are a fact of life on the road with CEB. While CEB has negotiated rates with top-tier hotels like Marriott and W Hotels, good luck getting to stay in one. Those negotiated rates are for limited inventories that are never available when you book your trip (you almost never book more than a week or two in advance due to the nature of CEB's sales model). CEB is a well-scripted boiler room operation. It's a great story, just not a great place to work.
Message: yes, they're very cheap. I worked at CEB for 3 years in research and whenever I traveled it was always cheapest available and cheapest hotel rooms possible, even in London, where cheap means horrible accommodations. Luckily, i did find a good hotel there that met the price requirements, but barely. Vacation time is a real problem. most people I know didnt take nearly the amount given. I decided to screw it - i took every last second - ha! and now i'm gone, get paid more money, and have my dream job in my dream industry. CEB was a good experience overall, but when it was time to go it was time to go.
