I skimmed over the interview portion, but a funny thing did happen (in retrospect) while I was there. Before the interview I was wrote down questions to ask once the interview was winding down. I figured a fair question would be about regarding the impending buyout. Now the article I read regarding the buyout was posted November 3rd, and I think my interview was November 5th.
Anyways I'm in the office with the manager and the IT guy, the interview is coming to a close, so they give me the opportunity to ask anything I'd like. So I ask them if management has given them any kind of reassurances regarding the positions on the current contract with respect to the impending buyout talks. I'm not lying when I say the hiring manager looked like she was just punched in the gut. "What buyout?!"
Now I'm like, oh shit, I came here to talk my way into a job and I'm going to get booted out the door while starting a company-wide panic in the process. "Where did you hear that?!". They're both staring a hold in me. At this point I just panic and start playing stupid, saying I thought I read something aobut it online or something. The IT guy who was leaving reassured me that CSC was a very large company and a buyout was next to impossible.
The hiring manager seemed to get very defensive, but I think I saw more fear in her eyes than anger; it freaked me out nonetheless. Needless to say that was the last question I asked before I scooted out the door. In retrospect I still think it was a fair question and I should have just told them what I knew, but at the moment it didn't seem like a pertinent thing to do. Looking back it is pretty funny though, and I think I would e-mail the hiring manager the link if I had her e-mail :) |
