I know the economy is complete crap, but you will regret working for CA from Day One until the day you leave, get fired, or get laid-off.
1.A) Depends on where you work in CA, but in general, morale is low. Consultants are travelled to death, desk drones waste away the day eating donuts and hanging out in the gym. Pay raises are tiny, if any. And sometimes - regardless of how well you did - you may not even get a tiny inflation raise, instead you could be told "you are already overpaid".
1.B) You are a billable body. If you are not selling, you are supporting the sale. There is no higher purpose or reason for your being.
There are no career paths in CA per se. Middle mgrs have no authority, just endless responsibility. This leads to spineless yes-men.
2.A) Many hundreds of techys were let go this past April 1st - April 1st is the annual re-orgasm. We reorg if we need it or not every April 1st, then spin our wheels for 45 days or so trying to figure out who does what for who and where.
If you don't like your situation, wait a year, it WILL change - for better or worse. And never piss off anyone, the person you hired may be your boss the following April. You may be a VP one year, a Consultant the next. CA freely gives out - and takes away - business card promotions.
2.B) There have been hundreds of "smaller" layoffs of techys since April 1st. Once laid-off, no going back except in extreme cases. They wouldn't admit they made a mistake.
3.A) 80-100%. Get used to living on the road. And wait til you get a load of the lovely expense report system and meal allowances with receipts, and travelling before or after normal business hours - YOUR time - just wait!!!
Yes, once the economy improves, CA will have lots of openings - as the burnt-out consultants bail.
4.A) Only CA classes; which consist of PowerPoints and nearly useless class doc.
4.B) You'll progress when I tell you to progress, any other questions before you leave for the airport?
4.C) Tuition reimbursement for job-related degrees. And you attend classes on weekends. After you get back Friday nite. |
