I'm hoping I am posting this in the right place. I'm assuming you are all HR types... :-)
I was wondering if some of you could talk about whether or not your company's insurance plan covers infertility treatments and how you HR types feel about mandated covererage.
I guess I want to know how you feel because infertiltiy is considered a disease under the ADA yet the vast majority of insurance companies will not cover it even though studies have shown it would cost, on average, only $.26 more per month!!
If you would like to read more about the Fair Access to Infertility Treatment Act 2000 try here. http://faithact.tripod.com and you can also sign a petition to help get this bill passed.
For those who are curious, yes I am infertile and there is no way I can afford infertility treatments at $20k a pop. Adoption costs can be just as high. |

I think that it should be covered the same as any disease that is discovered and then treated especially if it has not been found as a pre-existing condition that was known about. I had an insurance that an employee in the company had too and he was able to get some coverage for such treatments but it was under the PPO plan.
