In Reply To: Hi thanks for replying me - I wanted to ask you - if you could do it all again - what concentration would you choose at sipa in order to increase your chances for landing a banking position? i really want to study isp but i think i should choose a double concentration with that and something else, so i have have something to fall back on to get a job after i graduate - i am funding my education entirely with student loans so i really will need to find a good job after graduation...any advice would be appreciated...
Message: Um, well, that's hard to answer, because if you really really really already know that you want to work in banking, you're better off getting an MBA (notwithstanding the good points that aidsmonkey made about how MBAs aren't all that). Have you looked into the dual degree MIA/MBA with Columbia Business School? As for what to concentrate in at SIPA -- IFB is the "natural" choice for those who want to go into banking. But that said, you should concentrate in whatever you're most interested in. Besides, no matter what your concentration, everyone gets the same degree -- an MIA. My advice would also be to do as many banking internships as possible while you're at SIPA, even if you have to take unpaid ones. It will boost your resume and help you when it comes time to answer the "why didn't you just go to business school" question that employers love to ask SIPA students.
