In Reply To: Since you also replied to my other post about Stern, where did you go to school??
Message: I grew up in Ann Arbor, took classes at U-M during high school, and have numerous friends who graduated from there (not hard to guess). My mother worked for the B-school for over 10 years. I went to Columbia in NYC, and knew people at NYU (although not at Stern). My high school friends attended a variety of schools (Stanford, Harvard, Wellesley, Brown, to name a few). I have a large number of friends in grad school - business, law, and medical - all over the country and at many of the top schools. Also, since I grew up in a college town, many of my friends' parents were professors who'd graduated from various schools around the country and discussed them with me. So, as you can see, I'm not a perfect expert, not having attended every school in the nation, but I have gotten a lot of insight on how many of these places are perceived, by both alumni, professors, and members of the industry/profession to which they feed. That said, take my advice with a grain of salt, just as you should anyone's (even the deans of the schools in question, actually, ESPECIALLY the deans of the schools in question). I'm sure you'll encounter numerous people who honestly agree and honestly disagree with my assessments. There are Michigan grads who automatically hire Michigan grads (Go Blue!) and I'm sure there are Stern grads who are determined to make your life a breeze. And there are probably some OSU grads who won't touch a Wolverine and a few weird Columbia people who have some sense of rivalry. Who knows. I'm just giving you my overall sense of things. It's a generalization, so take it as such and remember that each situation is different and individuals are bound to surprise.
