Anyone at a top college or one who has graduated from one knows that the US News Rankings and whatever other ones are just bs. In terms of the best undergrad education you can get, CalTech aint it. Here are my thoughts:
1st tier: Chicago, Harvard, Princeton, Swarthmore, Williams, Yale
2nd tier: Amherst, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, MIT, Stanford
3rd tier: Brown, Cornell, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Pomona

Your rankings are actually pretty accurate. but like you said, the criteria is "best undergrad education." who cares about that? only kids who go to chicago or swarthmore care about their intellect or whatever. it's all about prestige man.
