In Reply To: NYU is definitely a good school. You'd be hard pressed to find an all-around better arts/drama school--The Tisch School of the Arts--anywhere. The Stern School is one of the top 3 undergrad business programs in the country. And despite what everyone says, this is not the dumping ground for the ivies. I know lots of kids who turned down the ivy league becuase they simply wanted to be in NYC. That's NYU's biggest strength--it's location. Of course, Columbia is in NYC also, but only an idiot would prefer Columbia's neighborhood to NYU's. Maybe Ivy League kids are more booksmart, but NYU kids are street smart--there's a big difference. And we know how to have fun. I'd rather be cool than a dork anyday.
Message: I agree. Sure people may say the school is overpriced, but in my opinion, the experience, the education is well worth it. I, a Stern student, have been given (and is still being given) a unique educational experience, one that I am sure will not find anywhere else. While Stern is a top business school (and despite the previous comment about there being only a few undergrad business programs in the country, which is NOT true. If you think about just about every major university in the country has a seperate undergrad business program, please don't make me list them!), the Tisch School of Arts is HIGHLY selective, and just about every friend I have that's prelaw and/or premed in NYU's College of Arts and Sciences has been accepted to a first tier Law School or Medical College. Ok, so maybe you've heard the same stories before at your school, but from what I know, NYU guarantees security. NYU guarantees you a future. NYU and NYC train you, make you an independent, confident individual person. NYU, being one of the most racially/culturally diverse universities in the country, has opened my eyes and has taught me the values and beliefs in others...it has taught me to NOT pass judgements (just like all you NYU "bashers" have been doing") and to accept differences. Now...that's just a gist of what my life has been like these past 3 yrs. If I were to calculate and estimate if my experience at NYU is anywhere equivalent to my tuition bill, then I would say that I have definetly broken even. Actually no, I am definetly making a profit. As my dad always says...you can't really put a price on education, especially if you're getting the kind of experience I am.
