In Reply To: You failed to mention our new Center for Finance, something I don't believe either Yale or Harvard has. You also failed to mention the $100 million dollar grant given by Gordon Wu towards our Engineering school. Leading research? I've taken classes with professors who have their own theorems and proofs. Have you heard about Fermat's Last Theorem? The one that's perplexed mathematicians for ages? A Princetonian recently proved it. What about the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory? It just set a world record in fusion energy. It's the leading laboratory of its kind in the world? What about Professor Tsui who recently won the Nobel Prize for his research in quantum physics? In the past few weeks? Princeton researchers discovered neurogenesis in mice, a phenomenon thought to be nonexistent. Anti-gravity forces have been observed in the universe by Princeton astronomers. Look on the Princeon homepage. There is a new discovery almost every week. This stuff is all off the top of my head, but I do it to prove a point: Princeton is hardly yesterday's news. That's a pretty ignorant statement to make. I'm learning from people who are changing the world. Anyway, what this person wanted to know was where her sister should go for UNDERGRAD, and when it comes to undergraduate education, I hardly think that she'd want her sister to go where the undergrads are relatively neglected. Many of professors know me by name, and that's not a rare thing. So please, next time you say something like that, think about what you're saying. "Princeton is yesterday's news" is the statement that is unfounded here.
Message: I agree...I've never attended Princeton (visited on a grad school recruiting trip though) but feel that it might be the best undergraduate education in America. Not only are the students and faculty (esp in math and physics) outstanding, but it's very undergraduate-based. No medical, law, or business school, and no huge graduate programs. While this does have drawbacks, it also is conducive to more close-knit undergrad education with plenty of personal attention.
