I don't know about Caltech's prestige overseas. It is such a specialized school and does not have the deep roots of MIT.
Duke, I forgot to add.
UVA, UNC, U Mich don't belong on the 2nd tier list. Maybe 3rd tier. So are Williams and Amherst...second tier prestige in only liberal arts, so I bet not many engineers know about them. |

caltech is definitely top 5. it's the nation's most rigorous school. with some of the brightest kids in the world.
