Message: Okay, I'm a current Princeton student. I have many friends at Yale. They are both very good schools. It's meaningless to argue over which one is better. Why does it matter? Different strokes for differnt folks... I chose Princeton over Yale because of its strong focus on undergraduate education (it's not distracted by having to tend to a law or medical school). The Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs at Princeton is also one of the best in the world, and that's what I'm majoring in. If I wanted to study pure political science, Yale may have been a better fit. As far as social atmosphere goes, regardless of the percentage of minorit enrollment, the "culture" of the Ivies is remarkably similar if compared to non-ivy schools so its a moot point to argue that one is significantly more minority-friendly, espcially as compared to a Penn State or Howard (i am a minority student). As far as campus safety goes, a recent study listed Penn, Yale, and Columbia as the most dangerous (in that order), while Dartmouth and Princeton were the safest. My friends at Yale confirm this. My advice to you if you're trying to choose a school, don't be fooled by rankings or what people say on message boards like this one, actually visit the school during a normal day, talk to normal students, and see if it feels right for you. My two cents. -Princeton Class of 2001
