In Reply To: But you forget that Oxford students are widely regarded as opinionated, arrogant and naive by every other British citizen. Ain't that the truth?
Message: Oh, and I forgot... that sooo matters, doesn't it? You couldn't possibly be one of those people who somehow failed to miss the mark (much to mummy and daddy's disappointment) and joined the Oxford Rejects Society at some lesser academic institution (probably an ex-Poly masquerading as a university), to wail miserably about how "I could have gone to Oxford if I'd wanted to," and "hey, who'd want to come out with a degree from Oxford/Oxbridge anyway..."could you? Or are you perhaps one of those lovely American cousins of ours who (with the exception of my very bright and extremely hot boyfriend) are under the misconception that somehow the nation that has based all its best attributes on copies of ours (or indeed imported them wholesale; after all, let's not forget about the London Bridge fiasco...) has somehow improved upon an already flawless model... Hmmm.. let's have a little look at the American university system as compared with Oxford (I can't speak for my Light Blue friends here...), shall we? The top unis over the pond are all either based on the Oxford model (mainly East Coast), or look like a glorified hacienda (I think we all know which one I'm referring to...), you can do classes in pretty much anything to make up your degree units - regardless of whether it has anything to do with the topic you are majoring in (in itself a farce), and you can take as long to do it as you fancy. Even the likes of Stanford, Harvard, Yale, don't make their students put in the same hours, and if you compare two students of the same age of apparently similar universities, you will always find that the British educated one will know considerably more than their American equivalent... And by the way, the sooner we put a stop to the families of the little darlings who come over on their one term exchange programs (yes, the previous post about slow classes is entirely true)(thank you very much, that will be $8,000, Sir) and wander up The High, saying "Gee, Daddy, ain't it quaint - can we take it home and have it on the ranch?", the better...
