In Reply To: i will be a high school senior soon and i plan to apply to several ivies, stanford, duke, and northwestern. i worked hard in high school, but i want to party in college and still get a decent gpa (possibly for law school). which of the top colleges have reputations for grade inflation? average gpa numbers would be appreciated as well as your experience. thanks for the info.
Message: Kid, in terms of a liberal-arts undergrad education, all of the ivies inflate grades except for Cornell and Dartmouth. I've heard that Brown doesn't even give grades, i could be wrong, but i could also be close to the truth. It also depends on what you study in undergrad. If you go to Penn and study sociology or art history, you should be well above 3.0, but if you pursue an economics degree (at Wharton), you'll be working your ass off and might not have a stellar GPA, but you'll be working alongside brilliant kids and will learn alot. I don't have any average gpa numbers for you, but i have some realistic advice for you. If you want a gpa good enough to get you into law-school, you'll have to study hard no matter where you go. Partying isn't hard to do at school, just depends on how much you want to do. Try and figure out what kind of balance you're looking for, but in the end, just go to the school that you like the most, dont worry about grad-school and jobs etc. because if you look too far ahead you won't be able to concentrate on what's right in front of you.
