No one disputes the value of an Ivy League diploma. That's why I chose to transfer into a prestigious school in the first place. However, the quality of the actual education and experience is not drastically different. The reason that GS, MS, McK go to these schoosl is due more to snobbishness than anything else. My former college had tons of smart people who would kick ass at my current school, but few of them have the requisite financial resources to handle the huge bills. In addition, many of my current classmates are here due to factors other than academic excellence. Let's face it, this is a name game more than anything else.

As much as I hate to admit it, I wouldn't have my current job if it weren't for my pedigree (that I paid - and continue to pay - for... not my parents). I also know that my degree got me a higher salary. I don't doubt that you can do just as well at a public school - I almost opted out of an Ivy-education because of the debt that I would (and did) incur. But whatever - it all depends on what you want to do with your life. If you don't have the financial resources to pay for an Ivy education now, you will most likely be able to pay off your debts with the jobs you're offered after college.
