I am a sophomore in Finance at the Univ. of Illinois (3.7) interested in IBanking. After going to our Career Fair and talking to various people (recruiters, upperclassmen) it has become apparent that I might have to do an unpaid summer if I want to get into IBanking. I wanted to know if this would be worth the experience. Next year as a junior will recruiters respect the fact that I basically "volunteered" for a summer?
Thanks,

I'm a junior interning at a bank now and I wanted to let you know that it's almost unheard of to have a "real" internship in banking that doesn't pay. What I mean by this is that all of the summer analyst programs and other internships where you will see some level of responsibility tend to pay, and pay fairly well. The people that they don't pay here do low level things such as cold calling for brokers. You have a good GPA, don't sell yourself short or get duped into taking a low level internship. Good luck.
