In Reply To: that it is much easier to make arguments that are based in the clouds rather than rooted in fact, I must insist that you try to use some empirical evidence to support your claims. First off, I know for a fact (there is a list on the michigan website, but it is private) that there are U-M b-school interns at Merrill, GS, MSDW, SSB, JPM and CSFB... this casts doubt as to either a) the accuracy of your claim or b) the prestige of your employer. Your claim about the $25,000 gap in salaries between NWU and U-M is asinine and I'm sure you're aware of it. I'm sorry to hear that you're a NWU student, as I have a great deal of respect for your school (as I mentioned in an earlier post). U-M students make just as much as NWU students, and I defy you to try and prove otherwise. I have tried to be objective in my arguments. I have posted a placement report for the undergraduate b-school. I have posted the undergraduate b-school rankings as judged by U.S. News & World Report. I have posted the graduate school rankings as judged by U.S. News & World Report. I have posted the results of the Gourman report. What have you submitted except your own opinionated rants? Most people say rankings are bunk - and, for the most part, I agree. That was the premise of the ORIGINAL post in this string. It was argued that prestige is more important. An easily accessible way to judge prestige is to view placement results. So, I posted U-M's placement IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE WHO SAID THERE ARE NO U-M STUDENTS AT G.S. - PROVING HIM WRONG. THIS IS CALLED.... FACTS!!!! The report showed where some of the 300 kids who graduated are going and it is indisputably an impressive list. You, MORON, thought it was out of 5,000!!! I agree that you can't put too much reliance on rankings and you can't put too much reliance on placement. However, as I have more than adequately shown, a combination of high ranks on both fronts clearly proves that U-M is a solid school... it is not a step below any school IN UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS. Also, by trying to knock my argument about Michigan being top 10 in each of its major schools, you proved exactly my point... NO ONE IS AS GOOD AT SO MANY DIFFERENT FIELDS. I know that each of those other schools doesn't have a college in each field and that's exactly what I'm trying to bring to light. Where else can you go to get a top notch graduate degree in law, business, enginnering, medicine, education, dentistry, and countless liberal arts majors? The answer is... nowhere. By the way, the city of Chicago sucks and banks suck, enjoy friday night in the office.
Message: In my continued effort to remain objective, I would like to admit that I am incorrect. There is, admittedly, an income gap between NWU and U-M GRADUATE students of about $9,000 as per U.S. NEWS. (Of course this has no reflection on UNDERGRADUATE programs so I'm not sure of the relevence.) Also, "Johns Hopkins has schools of Medicine and Engineering that put UM's to shame." U-M Engineering ranking - 4 JHU Engineering ranking - 24 ... not even close... go do your homework. To reiterate the rankings, Business - 9 Law - 7 Medical - 12 Engineering - 4 Education - 7 Nursing - 4 Political Science - 2 Psychology - 3 Undergraduate Business - 1
